Partners support opened a door to one girl’s education. Now her country stands to benefit.
Ten years ago, Naarita Arnold Avila met Rev. Bob Whittet. He and a team of Gordon students had come to Tarija, Bolivia, to build a new Christian school for Naarita and her classmates to attend. As Whittet returned year after year, his stories of Gordon inspired Naarita. She became convinced God was preparing her to pursue her passion for art and deepen her faith in Christ at Gordon.
God prepared the way: Through the life-changing support from Partners and Whittet’s church, Naarita became the first Bolivian student to attend Gordon. Now a senior art major, Naarita is not only honing her craft, but learning to live more fully in Christ. She has taken opportunities to study drawing and painting in Italy through Gordon IN Orvieto, and has served her classmates as a resident advisor and a leader for the student group Advocates for Cultural Diversity.
Naarita’s goal is to give back. She will return to Bolivia after she graduates to create art, serve the poor and teach children about God’s love.
She aspires to share her love, knowledge and material resources with those in her native country, just as Rev. Whittet and Gordon College Partners reached out to her.
