Dr. Daniel Russ serves as academic dean and as interim chair of the Department of Music. He previously directed Gordon's Center for Christian Studies. Dr. Russ came to Gordon College in 2002 as the first executive director of Christians in the Visual Arts, a national organization that is housed at Gordon and serves artists, the church and the culture.
Dr. Russ is a senior fellow of The Trinity Forum and a regular Trinity Forum moderator. He was headmaster of Trinity Christian Academy, a K–12 College Preparatory School in Dallas, Texas, from 1994 to 2002. He is a fellow of the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture, where he was the managing director for five years. There he founded Studies in Leadership, a program that affords business, professional and civic leaders the opportunity to re-vision their leadership in light of the wisdom of the classics.
Dr. Russ has contributed to a number of books on classics, biblical studies, and cultural leadership, including The Terrain of Comedy, The Epic Cosmos, Classic Texts and the Nature of Authority, Invitation to the Classics, The Tragic Abyss, What is a Teacher?, and The Christian College Phenomenon. He is the author of Flesh-and-Blood Jesus: Learning to Be Fully Human from the Son of Man, which was published in 2008 and in a second revised edition in 2013.
Dr. Russ and his wife Kathy have four grown children and eight grandchildren.
