Academic Programs

Students enrolled in the Environmental Studies minor take classes from a large variety of departments: Natural Science, Biology, Philosophy, Political Studies and Sociology. The program emphasizes Christian principles directing us to practice good environmental stewardship.

For students interested in more extensive environmental studies, Gordon provides many opportunities for further study through its partnerships, including:

  • The AuSable Institute, offering a number of courses and internships focused on ecology and issues of environmental stewardship across five campuses,
  • ECHO, a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to fighting world hunger, where Gordon students can study sustainable tropical agriculture,
  • Creation Care Semester (through the CCCU) in New Zealand and Belize, and the Latin American Studies Program (Costa Rica) Environmental Studies concentration.

For more opportunities and to discuss environmental studies in more detail, contact , assistant professor of biology, and the AuSable Institute representative to Gordon.

Gordon's Chemistry department is committed to green chemistry--chemistry that is intentionally safer for human health and the environment. The department is in the vanguard of the green chemistry movement, engaging in education and outreach activities that bring the principles of green chemistry to students, faculty and the general public in New England and beyond.
