Painting Faculty

Art faculty members are professionals in each of their specialty areas. They are artists who teach the very media they practice, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and design.

  • Faculty members exhibit their work nationally and internationally from New York and Boston to St. Petersburg, Russia and Florence, Italy.
  • Their works reside in many national and international collections.
  • Each is a member of Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA) and the College is a member of the College Art Association (CAA).

Bruce Herman joined the faculty in 1984 and became the first chair of the Art Department in 1988. His primary focus as a teacher and artist is figurative painting. He received the Junior Distinguished Faculty Award in 1992 and was awarded the first fully-endowed Distinguished Chair at Gordon in 2006. Jim Zingarelli

James Zingarelli

Professor of Art

Jim Zingarelli has been teaching at Gordon since 1996. His primary work as an artist and teacher lies in the area of sculpture, notably stone carving, working in marble, granite and limestone. His current work deals with issues surrounding world hunger and he has traveled to Honduras, South Africa, and Morocco in an effort to create an art of public service within the global community.
