Russian Studies Program

Discover the depth and diversity of post-Soviet culture in Russia. From Moscow, the heart of both medieval and modern Russia, and Nizhni Novgorod, a strategic city on the Volga River, to the complex and intriguing city of St. Petersburg, the Russian "window to the West," the Russian Studies Program enables students to discover for themselves the Russia of tomorrow.

After 16 years the Russian Studies will be concluding.  Fall 2010 will be the last semester this program is offered!

VISION
The Russian Studies Program gives participants the opportunity to be on the edge of discovery as political and economic events have a daily influence on the Russia of tomorrow and its relationship with the West. The program prepares you to live out your faith in a multinational and culturally diverse world.

QUALIFICATIONS
To gain eligibility you must:

  • Be a junior or senior
  • Maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 2.75
  • Possess a strong commitment to academics and Christianity

CREDITS
The three main components of the Russian Studies Program are designed to integrate study of the culture, language, and history, thereby giving students the best possible opportunity to deepen their cross-cultural understanding. The following courses are required courses for the program:

  • Russian Language Study (4)
  • History and Sociology of Religion (3)
  • Russian Peoples, Culture, and Language (4)
  • Russia in Transition (3)

For the final 2 credits of the program students may either take:

  • Russian Language Study (for a total of 6 language credits)
  • International Relations and Business (2)

APPLICATION PROCEDURE & DEADLINES

REGULAR ADMISSION:
All Gordon students applying to a BEST SEMESTER program must first submit an online seat application to participate in a Global Education program (link available to Gordon students only). Only after you've been approved by the Global Education Office for study abroad, may you proceed with the BEST SEMESTER's online application.
  • Seat applications for fall semester must be submitted online by February 15. Interviews with the Global Education Office must be conducted by that same date.
  • Seat applications for spring semester must be submitted online by September 15. Interviews with the Global Education Office must be conducted by that same date.

After you've been approved by the Global Education Office proceed with the BEST SEMESTER's application. Deadlines are:

  • Fall Semester: April 1
  • Spring Semester: October 1

EARLY ADMISSION:
If you wish to apply early admission to the
Russian Studies Program, then the deadlines are as follows:

  • Seat applications for fall semester-EARLY ADMISSION must be submitted online by January 15. Interviews with the Global Education Office must be conducted by that same date.
  • Seat applications for spring semester-EARLY ADMISSION must be submitted online by April 15. Interviews with the Global Education Office must be conducted by that same date.

After you've been approved by the Global Education Office, you proceed with the BEST SEMESTER's application. The BEST SEMESTER's early admission deadlines are:

  • Fall Semester: February 2
  • Spring Semester: May 1

COST
The cost is generally equal to a 16 credit semester at Gordon and includes:

  • Tuition
  • Fees
  • Room and board
  • Round trip transportation between New York and Russia
  • Immigration and Visa expenses
  • Program-related travel

Not included in regular tuition costs are such items as:

  • Personal expenses
  • Books (paid with acceptance deposit)
  • Travel between home and New York
  • Independent travel
  • Fee for International Student ID Card (ISIC)
  • Personal medical expenses, if incurred
