2012-2013 Student Interns
The following students are interns at Gordon in Lynn's core community partners and oversee SALTeams (Serve and Learn Teams) from the first year Great Conversations course. Click on the following thumbnail images to meet our interns:
Hayley Pomeroy is a junior Mathematics major with a Pre-Med minor from Long Beach, Ca. She has a passion for watching and participating in the growth and successes of others. She loves working with children and listening to the stories of others with experiences different from her own. She is excited to be partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Lynn to serve and to love the children and people there, while integrating into their community—as well as bringing this same opportunity to the members of her SALTeam.
Night School—Adult ESL
Alverina Berube is a sophomore Biology major with a real love for learning about God’s creation. Alverina hopes to attend medical school after Gordon and become a pediatrician. She enjoys singing and spending time with all the wonderful people she has met at Gordon. Alverina is SO excited to become a part of the night school family and show God’s love through this ESL ministry.
New American Center—After-school tutoring for refugee youth
Zoey is a Art/Psychology double major from West Chester, PA. She LOVES listening to music and she never wears matching socks. Zoey thrives on talking and building relationships with others. She is really excited to continue working at the N.A.C in the city of Lynn. Lynn is a fantastic place to pursue God's call to deepen friendships, break down cultural barriers and love one another.
New American Center—After-school tutoring for refugee youth
Hi! My name is Jed, I am an undecided major but am leaning towards Christian Ministries or Biblical Studies. I am from New Jersey (south Jersey) where I live in a beautiful house right by the Pine Barrens, one of my favorite places in the world. I am basically obsessed with Jesus and with sports, specifically soccer. I am extremely excited to be working at the NAC next year and can’t wait to see all that God has in store for us!
Bridgewell—Day program for adults with disabilities / Gregg House—Pre-school day care
Steph is a sophomore social work and [probable] art double major. She is from the wonderful state of New Hampshire and is the oldest of the two girls in her family. Steph is super excited to be returning to serve at both Gregg House and Bridgewell this year! She can’t wait to see all of the exciting new opportunities and experiences that are undoubtedly going to present themselves while serving with her SALTeams.
Living Fields Light House—Cambodian youth ministry and East Coast International Church—an urban church plant
Conor is a sophomore Biology major with a concentration in Pre-Med and a Missions minor. He really enjoys skiing, exploring the Gordon woods, and sailing. He is really looking forward to working with Gordon in Lynn, ECIC, and Lighthouse next semester. He hopes that his SALTeams will have a great time learning about the city of Lynn and the people who live there.
Family Dinner Project—Harrington Elementary School
Eric is a business major and a outdoor education minor from Long Island, New York. He enjoys rock climbing, hiking and taking risks. Eric is the youngest of four kids, one of which is also currently a senior at Gordon. He is very excited to be working with the Family Dinner Project and being involved with Harrington Elementary School this upcoming year.
Family Dinner Project and Ford School—Public elementary school tutoring
Sarah is a Social Work and Sociology double major from northern New Jersey. During her sophomore year at Gordon she is looking forward to partnering with the tutoring program and Family Dinner Project at the Ford Elementary School in Lynn. She loves the classroom atmosphere and is excited to really invest in the lives of her Salt Team and the children in Lynn. She hopes to tie some of her social work studies into her experiences throughout the next year!
Abby Swanson
Catholic Charities - Adult ESOL
Abby is an English major with a Pre-Law minor. She is from Reading, Mass. She loves to read, write and swim. She is really looking forward to taking a Salteam to Catholic Charities to teach ESL! She is excited to introduce her Salteams to the city of Lynn and help them create relationships there.
Haley is a sophomore at Gordon studying History and Classics, with a special interest in Anthropology. She is from South Portland, ME and is one of nine siblings. For fun she likes to write, run, and read! Lynn has been a part of her Gordon experience since day one and she is thrilled to continue to invest in a city that has continually blessed her. Haley is especially excited to be working with the kids and staff at the YMCA!
My name is Christian Sosa, and I’m from Methuen, MA. I am a Sophomore Deciding Major, with a Spanish Minor. I love to read good books, and listen to music in my free time. I’m super pumped to be a Gordon in Lynn Intern this year at the Boys and Girls Club and work with the SALTeams in serving in Lynn.
Hi my name is Hannah Otto and I am a Biblical Studies and History double major. For fun I enjoy playing ice hockey, frisbee, and football. I am so excited to work as a Gordon in Lynn volunteer with the Salt teams and with the kids at the YMCA.
Elaine Hong is a sophomore at Gordon, majoring in Biology (Pre-Health concentration) with a double minor in Neuroscience and Chemistry. She loves adventuring, rock climbing, curling up with good books, and everything else that brings happiness and bliss. Elaine is excited for the coming year and cannot wait to serve as Gordon-in-Lynn intern for Family Dinner Project!
