ADOPT A GRANDPARENT
Members of the Adopt-a-Grandparent ministry make weekly visits to Blueberry Hill Manor, a nearby nursing home. The team meets on campus at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoons for a brief time of prayer and organization, and then head to the residence. Each week they invite residents to come to the common room to participate in crafts. They also make a point of visiting other residents in their rooms.
HOMELESS MINISTRY
The Homeless Ministry group meets weekly on campus for a time of fellowship, prayer and program work in addition to their Saturday trips to the Boston Commons. Each Saturday, they go to Boston to hand out soup and warm clothing to members of the Boston homeless community and spend time with the them. In addition, ministry members often participate in Boston's annual Walk for Hunger.
Because this ministry has had a faithful presence in Boston over the past years, some of the 'regulars' of the Boston homeless community look forward to Gordon student visits and count some of them as friends.
REACH DRAMA MINISTRY
REACH meets weekly during the fall semester for prayer, discernment and practice as they work up presentations to offer to area schools and youth groups.
Students visit high school and middle school youth groups during the spring semester, presenting material dealing with peer pressure, abstinence, popularity, divorce, depression and suicide. Ministry members spend time with the youth before and after presentations to develop relationships and follow up on the material presented in the skits.
SOUP KITCHEN
Soup Kitchen ministry works with Salem Mission, visiting regularly to prepare and serve a meal at the Mission. This ministry has often run on a space-available basis. Check student news and other campus announcements for details about meeting dates and times.
WOMAN AT THE WELL
This ministry was begun by a student last year in response to a request from the staff of Boston Rescue Mission for casual companionship for some of the women involved in the residential program. Student members head down to Boston once or twice a week to visit with some of the women clients at Boston Rescue Mission. Students form relationships with the women through a variety of activities including on-site craft projects, Bible study, and prayer, as well as off-site field trips and outings around Boston.
Because the program is a fairly comprehensive one, student members need to go through some volunteer training and background checks before they are granted access to the mission's facilities and clients.
HANDS OF HOPE
Members of Hands of Hope visit local hospitals to share human touch with at-risk infants.
