This coming March, Gordon College will be embarking on their 5th trip down south!
Mississippi is the poorest state in the country with the lowest education rate. Even 50 years after Dr. Martin Luther King’s famous “I have a dream” speech, Mississippi is still plagued by racial tension. To combat these issues, in 1994 Jasper and Carolyn Bacon started In His Steps Ministries. Their 4-fold ministry combines Intervention,Prevention, Family Services, and Compassionate ministry with a special heart toward racial reconciliation. They also welcome many short-term mission trips from all around the country throughout the year.
Seventeen years ago Lanesville Congregational Church in Gloucester, MA began a long-term relationship serving with In His Steps every summer. Four years ago, through a connection with a church member from Lanesville, Gordon sent a mission team down to similarly serve IHS.
In this our 5th year, we will be continuing our relationships with In His Steps as well as the people of Canton. We’re looking to once again serve In His Steps wherever there is need and to pour into the lives of the children with whom we’ve made meaningful connections over the years. Going on this trip provides opportunities to:
all for the common cause of the gospel of Jesus Christ - with the hope that we might all walk together in the same way that He Himself walked.
