Environmental Studies Minor

Are you curious about how humans interact with the natural world? Maybe you’re a sociology major interested in working with underserved communities lacking natural resources, or a chemistry major seeking to employ non-toxic methods. Perhaps you’re a business administration major looking to steer corporations to sustainable business practices, or an international affairs major wanting to address environmental issues that face the developing world. The environmental studies minor is where you connect your major with creation care ethics.

(Are you a biology major? You may be looking for the environmental science concentration.)

Why choose the environmental studies minor at Gordon?

The environmental studies minor blends science with policy, economics and community development to offer a big-picture approach within a Christian framework. You will be taught and mentored by faculty who are active, faithful leaders in their fields. Located just three miles from the ocean, Gordon’s 450-acre campus offers miles of wooded trails, ponds and protected wetlands for practical learning experience.

What careers can I pursue with an environmental studies minor?

Your career opportunities in environmental studies depend on your primary major. Whether you prefer to focus on the economic, political, scientific or sociological facets of environmental work, you can tailor your studies within the minor and related programs to achieve your goals.

Go the extra mile!

Gordon’s emphasis on creation care is part of a longstanding commitment to sustainability, maintained by our campus-wide effort called Restore Creation. Our student-led green group, Advocates for a Sustainable Future, involves fellow students in environmental efforts—like an organic garden—and education. Off campus, students complete internships at a range of environmental institutions—including the Parker River Wildlife Refuge, Massachusetts Audubon Society, Ocean Genome Legacy and Trustees of Reservations (the oldest land conservancy in the U.S.) and local farms.
