The Heart of Discovery campaign represents Gordon's pledge to:
Breaking New Ground
Inspired by the passion for discovery that Gordon continues to cultivate, Ken Olsen, founder of Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) and one of the 20th century's leading pioneers in computer science, made a generous gift commitment to initiate a center for the sciences in the heart of the College's campus. Gordon College is especially honored that the Ken Olsen Science Center marks the first time Mr. Olsen has agreed to have his name associated with a building.
A Salute to Ken Olsen - June 17, 2006
On June 17, 2006 Gordon College broke ground for the new state-of-the-art Ken Olsen Science Center as former Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) employees gathered to pay tribute to Ken Olsen-one of the 20th century's leading pioneers in computer science and founder of the company.
Ken Olsen was so impressed with the openness with which science is taught at Gordon College as well as with the critical thinking and empirical approaches of the faculty that he joined the College's Board of Trustees in 1961. "It has been evident that Gordon strives to graduate students who feel at ease with science, economics and the humanities while holding on to their faith," he says.
A Committed Campaign
Scientific discoveries are unfolding at an unprecedented pace worldwide. It is vital that Christians with strong moral and theological bearings are involved in research and decisions that preserve the hope and well-being of all creation. To provide a state-of-the-art science center to educate the next generaion of Christians for the challenges of discovery, Gordon College is undertaking a $30 million capital campaign.
