Discovery classes also do low-ropes course elements. Students complete elements to develop teamwork and trust. Discovery fosters a creative environment where students are forced to think outside-the-box to complete each challenge
La Vida believes that debriefing is an essential component to experiential learning. After each element and initiative, Discovery students talk about or act out, as in this picture, how they felt during the activity, and determine what they can take away from it to apply to other group exercises and to life.
Every Discovery class takes a weekend camping trip up to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Each group typically hikes up a peak, has a short solo time, and continues to get to know each other through life stories. Students also learn how to set up and break down camp, pump water, and prepare meals.
Discovery classes meet on the ropes course for classes. Students have the opportunity to climb on a number of elements each class, including the Flying Squirrel pictured here. The high ropes course is a great way to step out of your comfort zone either by climbing or belaying. Students serve one another as a support system by encouraging each other through challenges.
Discovery is not a typical college class. There are no lectures or exams. Instead, leaders foster fun environments where students can feel free to be themselves, laugh, and have fun.

Students practice LNT principles on their camping weekend. Leave No Trace principles state that we are to leave the natural outdoors how we found them...without leftover food, garbage, or anything else.
Discovery students are encouraged to challenge themselves. Some decide to take it to the next level, and jump through hoops and over mountains on purpose.
