Christina Chao is a passionate collaborative pianist who has distinguished herself as a versatile musician. She has garnered acclaim for her performances as a solo pianist, art song recitalist, and chamber musician, and for her knowledge of choral, orchestral and operatic repertoire.

Especially noted for her sensitivity as an art song recitalist, Ms. Chao has performed at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Jordan Hall in Boston, MA. She has also performed in Canada, Europe, Australia, Nicaragua, and Taiwan in varying capacities as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral pianist. Renowned conductors Ms. Chao has worked with include George Manahan (New York City Opera), Joseph Flummerfelt (Westminster Choir), and John Hopkins OBE (British and Australia Broadcasting Corporations). Ms. Chao has also performed in master-classes with distinguished artists such as Bernard Greenhouse, Robert Mann, Elly Ameling, Marilyn Horne, Sherrill Milnes, Roger Vignoles, Julius Drake, Rudolf Jansen, Warren Jones, Margo Garrett, and Martin Katz.

With a deep connection and understanding for opera, Ms. Chao has established herself as a well sought-after vocal coach in the Greater Boston area. She is currently a vocal coach in the Undergraduate Opera Studies program at New England Conservatory (NEC) and she coaches senior voice major students in preparation for their degree recitals. Ms. Chao works in a similar capacity at Gordon College where she is a staff pianist and vocal coach. In addition, she performs with the choruses of Gordon College, Lesley University, NEC Preparatory School, and VOICES Boston.

Ms. Chao's musical training began in Taiwan at the age of five. She immigrated to Australia with her family three years later and was awarded the 2001 J.B. Vincent Award for the Best Licentiate Diploma Performance in Western Australia, as well as the Curriculum Council of Western Australia 2002 Subject Exhibition in Music. A recipient of the Maude Harrington Prize for Accompanying, Ms. Chao obtained her Bachelor of Music (Honors) in Piano Performance from The University of Melbourne. She then completed her Master of Music (Academic Honors) and Graduate Diploma in Collaborative Piano at New England Conservatory in Boston, and is currently completing the final requirements of her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in NEC's highly competitive program. She has been under the guidance of Professors Cameron Stowe, John Moriarty, Tanya Blaich, Jonathan Feldman, and Irma Vallecillo.
