Contemporary Music Center

The Best Semester's interdisciplinary Contemporary Music Center in Nashville, provides a community where young musicians and aspiring music executives can learn the ins and outs of a career in popular music. Finish the semester with:

  • Original recordings
  • Press kit and resume
  • The knowledge of how to get a recording contract or a job in the music industry

VISION
Designed as an artistic community, the program develops artists and music executives with a Christ-centered vision for music content, production, and delivery. The mission of the CMC is to prepare students academically and creatively for potential careers in the music industry.

QUALIFICATIONS
Juniors and seniors who have a minimum GPA of 2.75 and demonstrate ability to succeed in the business or creative dimension of the music industry are encouraged to apply.

CREDITS
You will take three core courses with all participants of the program and then choose an artist track or executive track, depending on your interests. Both tracks allow for a full 16 credit semester.

  • Inside the Music Industry (3)
  • Practicum (1)

Artist Track:

  • Essentials of Songwriting (3)
  • Studio Recording (3)
  • Performance (3)

Executive Track:

  • Artist Management (3)
  • A&R (Artists and Repertoire) (3)
  • Music Marketing and Sales (3)

APPLICATION PROCEDURE & DEADLINES

REGULAR ADMISSION:

All Gordon students applying to the BEST SEMESTER's Contemporary Music Center must first submit an online seat application to participate in a Global Education program. Only after you've been approved by the Global Education Office for study abroad, may you proceed with the BEST SEMESTER's online application.

  • Seat applications for the fall semester must be submitted online by March 15. Interviews with the Global Education Office must be conducted by that same date.
  • Seat applications for the spring semester must be submitted online by September 15. Interviews with the Global Education Office must be conducted by that same date.

After you've been approved by the Global Education Office proceed with the BEST SEMESTER's application. Deadlines are:

  • Fall Semester: April 1
  • Spring Semester: October 1

EARLY ADMISSION: If you wish to apply early admission to the Contemporary Music Center, then the deadlines are as follows:

  • Seat applications for fall semester-EARLY ADMISSION must be submitted online by January 15. Interviews with the Global Education Office must be conducted by that same date.
  • Seat applications for spring semester-EARLY ADMISSION must be submitted online by April 15. Interviews with the Global Education Office must be conducted by that same date.

After you've been approved by the Global Education Office, you proceed with the BEST SEMESTER's application. The BEST SEMESTER's early admission deadlines are:

  • Fall Semester: February 1
  • Spring Semester: May 1

COST
The cost is generally equal to a semester at Gordon and includes:

  • Tuition
  • Fees
  • Room and board (7 meals per week)
  • Necessary travel expenses
  • Studio facilities

Not included in regular tuition costs are such items as:

  • Lab fees
  • Personal expenses
  • Recording and printing media
  • Local transportation
  • Personal medical expenses, if incurred
