SUMMER 2010
COM291: International Journalism and Writing
From May 16–30, journalist and author Wendy Murray will teach a course that incorporates the diverse spectrum of challenges and rewards of learning how to "get the story" in an international context. Students will be required to write pieces related to local happenings in Assisi, local personalities, national (Italian or EU) news, or historical research on the life of St. Francis or Saint Claire. Students will work with translators, and learn the hard work of overcoming obstacles to win trust in a foreign context. Student work will be published in the official newsletter of The Assisi Workshops and in other electronic venues.
LOCATION
Students will live and work on location in the city of St. Francis and St. Claire, Assisi, Italy. The class will enjoy touring the local community and countryside, interacting with local theologians and scholars, and absorbing the Italian culture. Time is available in the schedule for additional day trips to other Umbrian locations of interest.
