WENHAM, MA-Gordon College's English department will host professional writer John H. Ritter, novelist and author of contemporary sports fiction, on Tuesday, May 9 at Gordon College. He will share his latest work, Under the Baseball Moon, in the Jenks Learning Resource Center in Room 406 at 4:30 p.m.
Ritter, originally from San Diego, has authored three books--Choosing Up Sides; Over the Wall; and The Boy Who Saved Baseball. Under the Baseball Moon, his most recent novel, will be released on May 4.
Ritter is the Writer in Residence for the Oceanside Unified School District in California. He gives frequent classroom presentations in the district and writes from a Stuart Mesa Elementary School office. Various publications, including Spitball: The Literary Baseball Magazine and The Christian Science Monitor have featured some of his work.
"I love discovering a good story," John says, "building it, and telling it. I love the rhythms and musicality of language. And when they all come together between the covers of a book, it's like magic." Ritter says his stories are inspired by injustices that bother him, but he refuses to write stories of revenge.
"Several years ago I met John as his first book was making its way to winning the International Reading Association Award," says Dr. Janis Flint-Ferguson, professor of Education and English at Gordon College. "We share a passion for the creative crafting of words and helping to encourage young readers to become writers. I am thrilled that we will be hosting John here at Gordon this spring when his fourth book, Under the Baseball Moon, is released. The last time he was here he gave us a taste of music and literature; his new novel is a full serving of his musicality in words."
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Vanessa Crooks at email@example.com.
