WENHAM, MA-Dr. Stephen Price, former college physician at Gordon College and founder of the Willowdale Medical Centers in Hamilton and Essex, received an honorary degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa, during Gordon's commencement exercises on May 13, 2006.

Price, who is currently medical director of Lahey Essex Medical Center in Essex, was the campus physician at Gordon from 1980 until 2002, during which time he also served as the school physician for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District. A native of Wales, he was a family practitioner in Winchcombe, England and in Nova Scotia, Canada, before relocating to Massachusetts in 1980. He received both his Bachelor of Science (1966) and Doctor of Medicine (1969) degrees from the University of Bristol, England. In 1998, Boston Magazine honored him as one of the top 25 doctors in New England out of more than 14,000 surveyed.

When he isn't practicing medicine professionally, Price can be found serving as a medical missionary locally and around the world. His recent activities include providing medical care to tsunami survivors in Sri Lanka, evacuees of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Louisiana and earthquake survivors in Pakistan. He also co-founded the North Shore Christian Men's Choir, a 50-member ensemble based in Hamilton, Massachusetts, that performs in prisons and places of worship locally and internationally.

Upon receiving his honorary degree, Price was recognized "for his faithful service in medical mission work, his leadership in his profession and his long service to the Gordon community." He is married to Stella, an adjunct professor of writing and rhetoric at Gordon College. They have three grown children and are active in their church in Essex, Massachusetts.
