WENHAM, MA—In a long line of honors and awards, Aaron Trigg, senior guard for the men’s basketball team, has just earned one more: Academic All-America second team.

The honor, sponsored by the ESPN Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSida), is given to a student-athlete who is a varsity starter or key reserve, maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, has reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution, and was nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

For Trigg, a business administration and finance major from Overland Park, Kansas, the news came after helping lead the team to another successful year. The Scots finished the regular season with a 21–4 record, having won 17 of their last 18 games.

“This is really a great and humbling honor,” Trigg said. “I hope that this can bring some attention to some of the good things that are happening at Gordon and within the athletic department.”

The Scot’s 12–1 conference record has also earned them first place in The Commonwealth Coast Conference, and in the midst of a demanding season, Trigg maintained his 3.80 grade point average and an average of 17.5 points per game. He also played an active leadership role in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Gordon as well as serving on a variety of campus committees. Earlier this season, Trigg became just the fifth player in Gordon men’s basketball history to cross the 1,500 career point mark.

“Aaron is a great example of a fine Christian man,” said head coach, Tod Murphy.  “He is the type of young man who doesn’t want merely to be in people’s lives; he wants to touch their lives. This award is reflective of his commitment to excellence in every area.”
