WENHAM, MA-The Gordon College men's basketball coach Mike Schauer, of Beverly, was recently named Coach of the Year by the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

Schauer joined the Fighting Scots at Gordon College in 2002 and recently led the men's basketball team to their first NCAA Tournament after Gordon finished with a 23-5 record for the 2005-2006 season. In addition, Gordon won the CCC regular season championship and earned the program's first NCAA Northeast Regional ranking.

"I am honored to have received the Coach of the Year award," says Schauer, "but it is a reflection of the progress we've made as a program and the efforts of each member of our team. I'm proud of how far our guys have come in the time that I've been at Gordon and their drive to make the program even better in years to come."

In the four years he has coached the men's basketball team, Coach Schauer has established Gordon as a premiere team in the CCC and the New England region. In the 30 years prior to Coach Schauer's tenure at Gordon, the program posted record of 237-474 (.333 winning percentage) with only five winning seasons during that period. Since taking over the program, Schauer has posted a 72-35 record (.673 winning percentage) in four consecutive winning seasons, including two 20-win campaigns, and already ranks second on the school's all-time win list. He holds the highest conference winning percentage of any coach in the history of the school with a 48-16 mark in conference play (.750 winning percentage).

"We've worked hard and been very fortunate to enjoy the success that we've had here at Gordon," Schauer commented on his program. "Gordon combines a sincere Christian environment, academic excellence and athletic success at a level few schools do. It is one of the elite Christian colleges in the country and I'm glad to coach the caliber of person that Gordon attracts."

Prior to his tenure at Gordon, Schauer was the head basketball coach and athletic director at Eastern University in Pennsylvania for two seasons. He was also the assistant coach at Wheaton College in Illinois for seven years.

Schauer received his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Wheaton College and his Master of Arts in Communications from Wheaton College Graduate School.
