Authors Mark Noll and James Turner Discuss "Evangelicalism, Catholicism, and The Future of Christian

WENHAM, MA -Mark Noll, Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame and James Turner, Rev. John J. Cavanaugh, C.S.C. Professor of Humanities at the University of Notre Dame, will speak at Gordon College on Monday, September 25, at 1 p.m. The lecture titled "Evangelicalism, Catholicism, and the Future of Christian Learning" is part of the Faith Seeking Understanding Lecture Series and will take place in the Presidents Dining Room of the Lane Student Center.

Noll is the author of Is the Reformation Over? An Evangelical Assessment of Contemporary Roman Catholicism; America's God, from Jonathan Edwards to Abraham Lincoln; American Evangelical Christianity: An Introduction; Turning Points: Decisive Moments in the History of Christianity; and The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind. His articles and reviews have appeared in First Things, Christian Century, Journal of Religion, Church History, Journal of American History, Christian History, American Historical Review, Atlantic Monthly, Christianity Today, Catholic Historical Review, and the Wall Street Journal.

James Turner is author of Language/Religion/Knowledge: Past and Present; The Liberal Education of Charles Eliot Norton; Without God, Without Creed: The Origins of Unbelief in America; and Reckoning with the Beast: Animals, Pain and Humanity in the Victorian Mind. Turner is co-author with John H. Roberts of The Sacred and the Secular University. His articles and reviews have appeared in American Historical Review, Books and Culture, Commonweal, Comparative Studies in Society and History, Catholic Education, Fides et Historia, First Things, Intellectual History Newsletter, Journal of American History, Journal of the History of Behavioral Sciences, Journal of Interdisciplinary History, Modern Intellectual History, and Yale Review.
