WENHAM, MA—
As the Christmas holidays draw near, so too does the cold weather, leaving many men and women living on the streets more vulnerable.

In an effort to address that concern, students involved in the Gordon College Student Association (GCSA) and the Gordon Homeless Ministry are collecting good winter coats in partnership with the Hamilton-Wenham Lions Club and Coats for Kids. Coats are being collected at the GCSA Office on the first floor of Lane Student Center (255 Grapevine Road in Wenham) from December 1–15 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The coat collection coincides with a number of community Christmas events planned for the public at Gordon College, beginning Wednesday, December 2, through Saturday, December 5. From a tree lighting, sustainable ornament making and hay rides to free Christmas concerts and sing-alongs, the campus invites families and friends from across the North Shore to enjoy the events and to also drop off coats in good condition to the GCSA box. A complete schedule of Christmas festivities can be found at www.gordon.edu/christmasatgordon.

“It’s been our goal as students at Gordon to be more involved with our community in Hamilton-Wenham,” said junior Alyssa Maine, vice president of communication for the Student Association. “We saw the coat drive as a great way to do that and to express our faith in service during this Christmas season. Too often we focus on getting gifts; the coat drive helps us give.”

Coats will be delivered December 16 through GCSA and the College Homeless Ministry, an organized club that includes 20–30 students who share weekly meals with homeless men and women in the Boston Common throughout the academic year.
