WENHAM, MA—Jon Tymann ’83 knows his way around the Bennett Center, the Brigham Athletic Complex and the J. Tec White Field. He’s frequently seen at the Quad whenever a Gordon athletic team is competing. And if you asked him the stats on any Gordon College player, he’d likely have an answer.

Because of his ardent support, professional experiences and ongoing expertise regarding Gordon sports, Tymann has been appointed interim athletic director for the 2009-2010 academic year.

A former Gordon athlete and baseball coach, Tymannwho currently serves as senior director of development at Gordon--has been directly involved with the athletic department in recent years, directing the Highlander Club, overseeing the Hall of Honor banquet, and assisting in the searches for new coaches. Tymann is an '83 graduate of Gordon and an '87 graduate of nearby Gordon-Conwell. He has worked with the College for 15 years.

“Jon is well informed about the programs, budgets, opportunities, and challenges facing athletics,” said Gordon Provost Mark Sargent. “He has significant experience with athletic fundraising, is well respected within the athletic department and has served often as an adviser to the coaches. I appreciate his collaborative spirit, creativity, and dedication to the College and look forward to working with him.”

Tymann will continue his work in development even as he begins his new responsibilities. He takes over for women’s basketball coach Jeannine Cavallaro, women’s soccer coach Marc Whitehouse, and outgoing men’s basketball coach Mike Schauer who served as co-athletic directors on an interim basis during the 2008-2009 season.
