WENHAM, MA- The Gordon College Theatre program at the Barrington Center for the Arts recently received the Silver Award for Favorite Place to See Theatre north of Boston by the 2006 Reader's Choice Awards.

Residents of Massachusetts nominate their favorite places, businesses and services through the Community Newspaper Comany's Reader's Choice Awards. The Reader's Choice Award's help provide the local community a voice to publicly thank the businesses and services that bring outstanding service and value to the region. The Reader's Choice Awards are held annually and announce the region's top-rankings in over 70 categories-from best entertainment venues and restaurants, to hospitals and car dealerships.

The Gordon theater program took Silver in the Regional Favorites category. The awards are sponsored by Community Newspaper Company (CNC), a subsidiary of Herald Media. CNC tallies thousands of votes during the competition and announce the honorees every June throughout CNC's Massachusetts newspaper publications.

"The Gordon College Theatre Department is committed to producing work which spans a broad range of theatre history and theatrical genres," says Jeff Miller, theatre arts professor at Gordon College. "Because creating new work is a significant part of our philosophy at Gordon, we are committed to producing new plays. But during a typical four year period, the local community and current students have the opportunity to see classics from the Greek to the Modern eras, dark tragedies to whimsical comedies as well."

Gordon's 2006-07 Theatre Season at the Barrington Center for the Arts will bring four performances to the Margaret Jensen Theatre stage. This years program will include Growing Up Christian-A special performance directed by Jeff Miller about growing up Christian in the United Stated during the late 20th and early 21st Centuries; Quilters-A folk-musical celebrating the lives of pioneer women by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, also directed by Jeff Miller; Enchanted April-A romantic comedy set in a beguiling Italian villa by Matthew Barber, directed by Norman Jones; and Spring Shorts-A series of student directed plays scheduled to hit the stage in May.

A resounding congratulations to the Gordon College Theatre Department for this honor. For information on the 2006-07 Theatre Arts Season at Gordon College visit the Theatre Department page or call Amber Primm in the Barrington Center for the Arts at 978.867.4751.
