WENHAM, MA–An earthquake hit central Italy early this morning, April 6 (3:30 a.m. in the central European time zone). The town of L'Aquila (about 50 miles from Orvieto, home base for the Gordon in Orvieto program) was hardest hit. Matt Doll, resident director of Gordon’s Orvieto program, has reported that while the quake was felt in the area, everyone there is safe (as most slept through it).

John Skillen, director of Gordon in Orvieto, writes: “Headlines can be a cause for concern when family and friends are involved—especially from such a distance, news like this can be distressing. We are thankful that everyone from Gordon is safe.  Tragically, as many as 50 people have died in the areas directly centered near the earthquake. We are praying for the families who have lost loved ones or who are missing others.”
