Barry Loy Promoted to Vice President of Student Development and Dean of Students

WENHAM, MA- He's known around the campus of Gordon College as a mentor, mediator, organizer, friend and top racquetball player. But one more title has just been added to the list for Barry Loy: Vice President of Student Development and Dean of Students.

Loy has worked with students at Gordon College for 24 years. Last month, Gordon College President Jud Carlberg formally promoted Loy and Provost Mark Sargent made the announcement first in an all staff meeting and then in a chapel service for students.  The change was widely praised by other administrators, faculty and staff.  

"The new title signals to external constituencies that Barry is the chief student development officer at Gordon," Sargent said.  "And it also affirms more than two decades of excellence in his role as the leader of our student development programs."

As Vice President of Student Development and Dean of Students, Loy oversees 42 full and part time staff in numerous departments and programs, including residence life, counseling, career services, Gordon in Lynn, LaVida Center for Outdoor Education, Recreation Intramurals, and the Bennett Center. In addition to these programs, Loy's leadership also extends to areas such as international and urban students, the Campus Events Council and doctors and nurses at the health center.

"Barry is widely respected around the nation among student development professionals, has won national awards, and has chaired national organizations," Sargent said. "I have worked with few people who can rival Barry for their integrity and their deep concern for the welfare of others."
