WENHAM, MA- Gordon College is one of the best colleges and universities in the Northeast according to The Princeton Review--a New York based company known for its test preparation, college admission and education services. The Princeton Review selected Gordon College as one of 212 institutions it recommends in the upcoming book, The Best Northeastern Colleges: 2009 Edition by Random House/Princeton Review Books. Gordon College will be featured with other local institutions such as Amherst, Babson, Brandeis, Smith and Wellesley as well as larger universities including Columbia, Princeton, Cornell, Georgetown and MIT. The Wenham-based Christian liberal arts college, known for its quality academics, outstanding faculty, and Christian community, was also selected as a "Best in the Northeast" college on PrincetonReview.com.
The Princeton Review survey evaluated institutional data, site visits, opinions from independent and high school-based college advisors, and asks students to rate their own schools on several issues--from the accessibility of their professors to quality of the campus food. Students are also asked to answer questions about themselves, their fellow students, and their experience regarding life on campus. Participating students expressed a Gordon education offers "engaging professors who share the same passion for Christ and change in the world that the students have." Students also commented specifically on the quality of their faculty, saying Gordon College has "great teachers," and the professors are "highly skilled, intelligent, accessible, and caring."
Robert Franek, Princeton Review Vice President for Publishing, says of the recently announced distinctions, "We recommend all of the schools we name this year as our 'regional best' colleges primarily for their excellent academic programs." In addition to institutional research and opinions collection from independent advisors, the survey uniquely weighs student opinions heavily. "We take into account what each school's customers--their students--report to us about their campus experiences at their schools on our 80-question student survey, Franek explains of the process. "Finally, we work to have our annual roster of 'regional best' colleges present a range of institutions in each region that varies by size, selectivity, character and locale."
The 212 colleges and universities chosen for the "Best in the Northeast" designations are located across eleven states including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and the District of Columbia. The 2009 Best Colleges Region by Region online feature also designates colleges and universities in other regions of the United States. Across the country, taking all regions into consideration, the 630 colleges named as "regional best(s)" represent a selected 25% (one out of four) of the nation's estimated 2,500 four-year colleges and universities. The book, The Best Northeastern Colleges: 2009 Edition, will be available on August 5, 2008.
