A Night of Jazz

WENHAM, MA-The Coy Pond Piranhas, the jazz ensemble of Gordon College, will perform a night of swing, Latin and fusion on Thursday, May 1 at 8 P.M. in the Phillips Recital Hall.

The jazz ensemble is a 25-piece group under the direction of Dr. David Rox who delight the local community with their performances. The program on May 1 will include such standards as "God Bless the Child"; "Swing Swing Swing"; "Fever"; and "All of Me", as well as a few lesser-known musical gems like "Cappuccino Freeway".

David W. Rox is a professor of music at Gordon College, where since 1981 he has conducted many instrumental ensembles including the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble. During this time he has served as the Director of the Music Education Program and has taught lower brass instruments to students. Dr. Rox holds an undergraduate degree from Gordon College in Music Education, and MM and Ed.D degrees from Boston University. He has conducted ensembles throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, including important venues in London, Paris, Cannes, Monaco, Genoa, Quebec, and at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade in Boston.

The Phillips Recital Hall is one of the most beautiful indoor spaces on the campus of Gordon College. A model of optimal acoustic performance and architectural creativity, the Recital Hall continues to astound audiences and performers alike. The hall provides an intimate venue for 200 patrons and features a retractable sound curtain for acoustic adjustment, an upper-level mezzanine, audio and video recording equipment, performance lighting, and a Walcher tracker-action organ installed in a second-story loft.
