WENHAM, MA-One of the world's leading string quartets, the St. Petersburg String Quartet, will perform on Friday, April 18, at 8 p.m. at Gordon College. This intimate concert will also include a one-work performance with Artist in Residence Mia Chung. The performance is part of the Thompson Chamber Music Series at Gordon College and will take place in the Phillips Recital Hall.
The St. Petersburg String Quartet includes musicians Alla Aranovskaya, Boris Vayner, Alla Krolevich, and Leonid Shukaye. All have extensive experience in music education and performance, each exhibiting their own unique talents both in their recordings and live performances.
"It's not often that the North Shore community is given the opportunity to experience chamber music of this caliber in such an intimate setting," said Keith Gruen, undergraduate music coordinator at the college. "This, the final concert of the 2007-2008 Thompson Chamber Music Series, promises to be among the finest concerts performed at Gordon this season."
With a repertoire of over 120 works, the St. Petersburg String Quartet has built a reputation of worldwide proportions, including a Grammy nomination, "Best Record" honors from Stereo Review and Gramophone magazines, and "Best CD of 2001" by the Chamber Music America's WQXR prize.
The evening will be particularly memorable when pianist Mia Chung, performs with the quartet for one work. A performance by Chung, who is described as "uncommonly insightful, individualistic, lively" and "technically dazzling" by the New York Times, brings sold out performances to Gordon as an international premier concerto soloist and chamber musician.
Tickets for this event are now on sale. General admission is $21 and $16 for senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Gordon College ticket line at 978.867.3400.
The performance is part of the Thompson Chamber Music Series-an ongoing program of recitals that features intimate performances of nationally known chamber musicians. The series has been underwritten in memory of Mr. Walter Thompson, who encouraged countless young people to strive for excellence in cultural and intellectual pursuits.
