WENHAM, MA-Gordon College wants to invite the entire North Shore community to participate in its "Christmas at Gordon" celebration December 6-8, 2007. "Christmas at Gordon" is an opportunity for our North Shore neighbors, families and patrons of the arts to come together and join the Gordon community in celebration of the Christmas season.
Holiday performances at Gordon are always special, but this year "Christmas at Gordon" offers three days of seasonal festivities for the whole family. Event highlights include a community carol-sing interwoven with holiday story-telling by author Jan Carlberg, a family Christmas concert, and a special screening of the Christmas film Elf. All events are free unless otherwise noted.
"One gift we hope to give to the community on and off campus this year is an opportunity to give the "grinches" in our lives perspective," says Jan Carlberg, author and wife of Gordon College president Jud Carlberg. "We want to help slow down the pace...time for cookies, hot chocolate, carol singing, stories and concerts. It's a great place to bring children and grandchildren and let them experience gifts that don't come from a store."
Gordon College recognizes the importance of giving back to the community and in an effort to make "Christmas at Gordon" available to everyone, many of the events are complimentary. We are especially excited to host the first-ever "Come All Ye and Sing" for music, rich storytelling, a professionally led carol-sing, and festive refreshments like hot chocolate and candy canes! We hope to draw people of every age to the Wenham campus this holiday season so come out with your families and celebrate Christmas in an environment that cherishes this special time of year!
At each event Gordon will operate an "unwrapped gift drive," so please consider bringing an unwrapped gift for a holiday donation to families and local social service organizations in need this Christmas. Gift requests include: Toys for children, warm winter clothing for children and their parents, art supplies and school supplies. Donations will be distributed to the following social service organizations in the city of Lynn, Massachusetts: International Rescue Committee (IRC), The Ford Elementary School, The New American Center, The Boys and Girls Club, and the College Bound/Lynn Housing Authority and Neighborhood Development.
