“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band to Perform at Gordon

WENHAM, MA-The Gordon College Department of Music is pleased to announce that "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, considered to be one of the world's greatest concert bands, will perform at Gordon as part of their 2007 Northeast Tour. The concert will take place on Sunday, October 28, 2007, at 3 p.m. in the A. J. Gordon Memorial Chapel.

"The performance of the Marine Band at Gordon is truly a highlight of this year's musical calendar," says David W. Rox, professor of Music at Gordon. "They are a world class ensemble, known internationally as premiere musicians in every respect. Their program is rich and varied with something for everyone. Our community is in for a rare treat!"

Under the direction of Colonel Michael J. Colburn, director, and Captain Michelle A. Rakers, assistant director, the Marine Band's two-hour performance will feature the following selections: March, "Atlantic City Pageant", Star-Spangled Overture from American Ballads, variations on "The Carnival of Venice", Suite No. 1 in E-flat, Opus 28, No. 1, Ballet Music from Le Cid, The Harold Arlen Songbook, March, "The Stars and Stripes Forever" and a salute to the Armed Forces of the United States of America.

"The President's Own" United States Marine Band has roughly 160 members that include five officers, a drum major and assistant drum major, approximately 130 musicians, 22 full-time professionals working in administration, library, music production, operations, public affairs, recording, stage managing, and supply, and 13 Marines from the Fleet Marine Force who work with administration, supply, and the stage managers.
