WENHAM, MA - In the 2007 Fiske Guide To Colleges, Gordon College was featured in the "Small Colleges and Universities Strong in Music" category. Only twenty seven colleges and universities nationwide were selected for this honor, two of which were from Massachusetts. Gordon was also one of only two accredited Christian colleges in the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) to make the list.

"Gordon was chosen for this category based on their strong reputation in the field of music and overall academic quality," said Edward B. Fiske of Fiske Guide To Colleges. In addition to reputation, writers for the Fiske publication examined Gordon student and administrative questionnaires and queried counselor advisory groups to determine the strongest majors and overall academic quality of the institution.

In 2000, the construction of the Phillips Music Center on the Gordon College campus, including the Phillips Recital Hall, marked the beginning of a new era in the development of the Music Department at Gordon."I'm honored to be associated with such an outstanding group of faculty and artists," says Professor C. Thomas Brooks, chair of the Department of Music and conductor of the Gordon College Choir and Chamber Singers. "We're delighted to be included on this high caliber list, alongside other institutions and conservatories internationally known for their impressive music programs."

Currently there are over 100 music majors and minors enrolled at Gordon and roughly 25 % of the total student body participate in ensembles taught by over 30 full and part-time faculty and staff. The music faculty at Gordon includes distinguished teachers, scholars and professional musicians from the Boston area. Gordon College offers a Bachelor of Music (BM), Bachelor of Music in Performance (BM) and a Bachelor of Music Education (BM), as well as a master's degree in Music Education (M.M.Ed.).

In 2006, Gordon was included in the ninth edition of Barron's Best Buys in College Education and also in the 2006 edition of "America's Best Colleges" by U.S. News & World Report-listed among the 160 best liberal arts colleges nation wide. Gordon was the only nationally ranked Christian liberal arts College in New England and one of only seven Christian colleges in the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) ranked nationwide.
