Bruce Herman Receives Boston University School of Visual Arts Distinguished Alumni Award

WENHAM, MA-Gordon College Art Department Chair and internationally known artist, Bruce Herman, recently received the 2006 School of Visual Arts Distinguished Alumni Award from Boston University. Recipients of this award are selected by a Boston University academy comprised of previous award recipients, school directors, and the Dean of the College. Since 1986, this award has been presented to College of Fine Arts (CFA) alumni who have made a significant contribution to the arts and have distinguished themselves with outstanding achievements in their professions, communities, and service to the College.

Earlier this year Herman was installed as the Lothlórien Distinguished Chair in the Fine Arts at Gordon College, the first endowed chair appointment in the history of the Christian Liberal Arts College.

Herman has served on the faculty at Gordon College for 22 years. He joined Gordon College in 1984 and in 1989 became Chair for the Visual Arts Department. He completed both undergraduate and graduate fine arts degrees at Boston University School for the Arts where he studied under Philip Guston, James Weeks, David Aronson and Reed Kay.  In addition to prominent museums, Herman's artwork has been exhibited in over 50 exhibitions in 11 major cities including Boston, New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, St. Paul and Phoenix. His work has been shown in five different countries, including England, Italy, Russia, Canada and Israel.
