By The Book: Faculty Signings Honor Publications of Gordon Scholars

Wenham, MA—Two days before Gordon College’s 122nd commencement exercises on May 17, students, graduates, families and friends will also be celebrating the publishing achievements of its faculty.

On Thursday, May 15, over ten professors from seven disciplines will participate in a faculty book signing in the Gordon College bookstore. From 4 to 5 p.m., students and guests may hear brief readings from professors as well as browse or purchase copies of their books for signing. Then at 8 p.m. that night in the Ken Olsen Science Center, Gordon president and professor of sociology D. Michael Lindsay will host a signing of his most recent book, View From the Top: An Inside Look at How People in Power See and Shape the World.

“This is a great opportunity to honor the newest works of some of our faculty,” said Dr. Dan Russ, academic dean, professor of English and author, who will also be signing. “Gordon has so many gifted scholars and voices that I know there will be several interesting readings to consider.”

Professors who will be signing and the titles of their books are as follows:

Cannister, Mark (co-chair/professor of Christian ministries): Teenagers Matter: Making Student Ministry a Priority in the Church.

Goss, David (assistant professor of history): Daily Life During the Salem Witch Trials.

Herman, Bruce (Lothlorien chair/professor of art): Through Your Eyes: Dialogues on the Paintings of Bruce Herman.

Hunt, Steven (professor of biblical studies): Character Studies in the Fourth Gospel: Narrative Approaches to Seventy Figures in John.

Howard, Tal (director of the Center for Faith & Inquiry/professor of history): God and the Atlantic: America, Europe and the Religious Divide; and Imago Dei: Human Dignity in Ecumenical Perspective.

Pérez Serrano, Pilar (associate professor of Spanish): La rebelión de Los esclavos: tragedia y posibilidad en el teatro de Raúl Hernández Garrido (Rebellion of the Slaves: Tragedy and Possibility in the Theatre of Raúl Hernández Garrido).

Phillips, Elaine (professor of biblical studies): With God Nothing Is Impossible.

Russ, Dan (academic dean/professor of English): Flesh and Blood Jesus, second edition.

Smith, Stephen (professor of economics): Economic Growth: Unleashing the Potential of Human Flourishing.

Trent, James (professor of sociology and social work): The Manliest Man: Samuel G. Howe and the Contours of Nineteenth-Century American Reform.
