Homecoming 2013

Homecoming and Family Weekend (September 27 and 28) was one of the largest Gordon alumni gatherings on record. Just a few of this year’s highlights:

The 2013 Homecoming Awards Celebration honored alumni and several faculty and students. The honorees included these:

Honorary Alumni Awards are a new honor for distinguished members of the Gordon community who did not graduate from the College. Welcomed in the first “class”: Richard MacDonald HON ’13, Alice Lam Kong HON ’13, Joani Schultz HON ’13, and Director of Facilities and Grounds Mark Stowell HON ’13.
 

Conversation with the President
Panelists Christian Smith ’83 (professor of sociology and director of the Center for the Study of Religion and Society at the University of Notre Dame), Richard Malloch ’75 (CEO of Hearst Business Media) and Abby Baird ’03 (attorney, Ropes & Gray, LLP) spoke with President Lindsay about their vocational journeys.


Children’s Zone activities included science experiments in the Ken Olsen Science Center, La Vida adventures like the Flying Squirrel and the 50-foot Swing- Shot, and several storytelling sessions.
 

Rising from Ashes: Nearly 350 alumni, students and local cyclists gathered for a screening of this film about two worlds colliding when cycling legend Jock Boyer moved to Rwanda to help a group of
struggling genocide survivors pursue their dream of a national cycling team. The event included a live Q & A with Boyer.
 

Splice: This screening of short films by members of the Gordon community included a panel with IN THE CAR co- founder Dave Ells ’07, communication arts faculty member Toddy Burton, and Brainfox producer Audrie Claire Johnson ’05. Dan Stevens ’07 moderated.


Blue flags on the quad representing academic majors helped alumni connect with their professors and with each other.


Visitors to the Gallery at Barrington Center for the Arts enjoyed recent work by Gordon art faculty and alumni including Tanja Butler, Aimee DeBose ’02, Anthony Falcetta ’92, Bill Franson, Bryn Gillette ’02, Grant Hanna ’06, Bruce Herman, Jaimee Kettle Taborda ’00, Jon MacAdam ’99, Ben Ober ’04, Michelle Arnold Paine ’99, Jean Sbarra Jones, Sue Trent, and Jim Zingarelli.
