New Academic Year, New Beginnings

On August 23, 542 new students (482 first-year students and 60 transfers) arrived on campus for Orientation activities including a welcome dinner, a day in Boston, course registration and "Success Tools" sessions, dessert with Gordon faculty and staff, and much more. 

The incoming students include 6 National Merit Scholars,10 Clarendon Scholars, and 53 A. J. Gordon Scholarship recipients.They represent 20 different countries and, in the U.S., 33 different states. 

On August 28, the first official day of classes, both new and returning students gathered for an annual tradition, the Matriculation Chapel, featuring the recipient of the previous academic year's Distinguished Senior Faculty award.

In her address, “The Best Shape of Your Life,” Dr. Valerie Gin, professor of recreation and leisure studies, challenged students to consider how trust and regimens could translate into their best efforts for the new year.
