WENHAM, MA—On Tuesday, June 4, representatives from the international and domestic missions field will gather in the Boston region for a workshop entitled “Loving our Global Neighbors.” This unique gathering will highlight case studies that have proven, high impact, low cost solutions to the underlying causes of pernicious  global poverty. The free event will close with a general panel discussion including participation from senior corporate and banking risk management professionals in an open discussion on ways and means to accelerate the scope and impact of these turnkey solutions.

From insight on sustainable food supplies and nutrition, creating economic global growth, microenterprise development, savings associations, clean water, and ethical decisions, the conference brings together speakers with a wealth of experience responding to issues of global poverty. "We'll hear from some of the world's top practitioners who actively engage in solving the underlying causes of pernicious poverty," said conference organizer Brian Bethune, an economist, author and member of the faculty at Gordon College. "These mission models maximize effectiveness and sustainability on the ground, in collaboration with local partner communities. Beyond that the conference will also examine technologies that could accelerate the scope and effectiveness of these key projects and initiatives." Each workshop will provide relevant case studies about how a particular organization is addressing the most fundamental needs of the poor—dignity, self-worth, opportunity and skills—in ways consistent with the Christian virtues of compassion, hope and justice.

Conference partners include HOPE International, World Relief, Caring Partners International, and Water for Cambodia. Additional insiders' viewpoints will be shared by Christopher Probyn, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist for State Street Global Advisors. Probyn, an international expert who monitors, forecasts and analyzes economic events in the world's major economies and assesses their impact on financial markets, will present “A Key to Unlocking a More Robust Global Economy – Reset Policy” as the keynote adress for the conference. Education partners for the conference include Gordon College, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Brandeis University and Bridgewater State College.
