Winter Storm Warning

Sunday, February, 10, 2013
9 a.m.

Campus activities may resume.

Friday, February 8, 2013
3:30 p.m.

At 12 p.m. on Friday, February 8, Governor Deval Patrick signed a State of Emergency Declaration for the entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The executive order will ban all vehicles from all Massachusetts roadways starting at 4 p.m. today for plowing and deployment of emergency management resources in a swift and effective manner. Students signed up for alerts through Gordon's Blackboard Connect text messaging service have received this update and all students have received an email with this important information as well.

The College continues to recommend students stay indoors during the height of the storm (this evening through midday tomorrow). Dining Services will serve dinner at the normal time this evening; however, there will be no late-night service tonight. As the storm is forecast into Saturday morning, there will be no breakfast served tomorrow morning. Instead, during dinner hours tonight, Dining Services will offer the option of purchasing a bagged-breakfast to take with students in preparation for the morning meal.

As always, the safety of our students and campus community is our primary concern. In the event of an emergency during the storm, please call Public Safety at 978.867.3333. We will be updating the Gordon College website, the campus emergency hotline at 978.867.3600, and will use our emergency notification service to keep everyone informed as needed.

Thursday, February 7, 2013
7:30 p.m.

In light of the impending winter storm, Gordon College will be closed on Friday, February 8 through Saturday, February 9. All classes, including graduate programs, as well as other scheduled events and activities are canceled or postponed. We do expect some activities to resume on Sunday, including women's and mens' basketball games that have already been rescheduled for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.

The Lane Student Center, Jenks Learning Resource Center and the Bennett Center will open on their regular schedules on Friday morning, for use by the on-campus community only, and will close later in the day before the weather worsens. We will update this message once that information is available.

For faculty and staff, only those who are normally required to be at Gordon providing essential services will be on campus.

Public Safety and Residence Life staff will provide more information and updates as needed throughout the storm. As in any severe weather situation, we will be updating the Gordon College website, the campus emergency hotline at 978.867.3600, and use our emergency notification service to keep everyone informed.

We encourage all students to stay on campus and inside for the duration of the storm as blizzard conditions are forecast for late Friday and into Saturday. It will be best to stay off the roads during and after the storm as the cleanup work could also be extensive.
