The 28th Biennial Conference On Faith & History Comes to Gordon's Campus

WENHAM, MA—Gordon College is poised to host the next national Conference on Faith and History this coming October 3-6, 2012. The biennial conference will welcome scholars from a variety of Christian traditions around the world as they explore the relationship between Christian faith and history.

On Thursday, October 4 at 7 p.m., Carlos Eire, Yale University, will deliver the keynote address entitled “Did Miracles Ever Cease? The Reformation and the Supernatural” in the Ken Olsen Science
Center's (KOSC) MacDonald Auditorium. On Friday, October 5 at 2:15 p.m., David Hempton, Harvard Divinity School, will speak in the KOSC, MacDonald Auditorium. Mark Noll, University of Notre Dame, will speak on Saturday, October 6, at 12 noon in the A. J. Gordon Memorial Chapel on “Scriptura Sola after Nearly 500 Years: A Protestant Blessing or a Protestant Curse?”  All addresses are open to the public free of charge.

“This event will bring historians together from many campuses and many diverse fields of study, to consider questions of human experience and belief,” says Jennifer Hevelone-Harper, professor of history at Gordon College. Gordon will welcome a number of undergraduates from all over the country to participate in this year’s Conference on Faith and History. “This group is committed to nurturing young scholars—both undergraduates and graduate students—and equipping the next generation of historians.”

The Conference on Faith and History is a community of scholars exploring the relationship between Christian faith and history. They also seek to learn from scholars outside the Christian tradition. Their primary goal is to encourage excellence in the theory and practice of history from the perspective of historic Christianity.
