WENHAM, MA—Evangelyna Etienne, Gordon College student and resident of Saugus, Massachusetts, died on September 11 after a three-year battle with myofibrosarcoma. A wake will be held 6–9 p.m. on Friday, September 23, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Malden, Massachusetts. An open casket viewing will be held 9–9:45 a.m. prior to a 10 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, September 24, in the A. J. Gordon Memorial Chapel on the campus of Gordon College in Wenham.
For the duration of her three-year fight with cancer, Etienne continued her studies as a music education major at Gordon College, where she participated in many performances, sang in numerous choirs, and led the international student support club ALANA. Just 18 days before her passing, Etienne sang “My Jesus, I love Thee” with the vocal ensemble for Gordon’s matriculation chapel.
“I can still vividly remember hearing Vangie for the first time as I accompanied her audition for our school,” says Michael Monroe, assistant professor of music. “She had a voice and musical maturity that far surpassed what one might expect from an undergrad.”
Family, friends, professors and fellow students admired her kind spirit and dedication to music and theatre. Read Evangelyna Etienne’s story in Gordon College’s student newspaper, The Tartan.
