Wenham, Massachusetts—Class is officially in session at Gordon College as of 8 a.m., Wednesday, August 24. With the start of its 122nd year, hundreds of students have already made history. That’s because the number of first-year students for the 2011–2012 academic year is the largest in the history of the College: 525.

They come from across 30 states, including California, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Illinois, Washington, and throughout New England. Twenty-three international students represent 10 countries, such as Korea, the United Kingdom, Venezuela, El Salvador, Uganda, Canada and China. The historic new class is now part of the 1,330 students who live in one of 14 resident halls on campus, while an additional 155 students will live off campus throughout the North Shore. Seventy-five current students are also studying abroad this semester in 18 countries through Gordon's Global Education Office.

“Gordon has always attracted a range of top students, and this year we have more than ever,” said June Bodoni, executive director of admissions and advancement operations. “Five hundred and twenty-five chose Gordon this year as a result of meeting professors, working with summer faculty advisers, and staying in touch with their admissions counselors. We’ve increased merit scholarship awards, and have worked hard to introduce students to the quality programs here. As a graduate myself, it’s exciting to see so many students recognizing the great education Gordon offers.”

Majors with the largest number of incoming students include biology with 57 students, Christian ministries with 34 students, education with 31 students, and communication arts, English, business administration, and psychology with 30 students each.
