WENHAM, MA - On Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 7 p.m. the New England College Band Association will present a free performance by the 24th Annual New England Intercollegiate Band at the A.J. Gordon Memorial Chapel at Gordon College.
The New England Intercollegiate Band is a 50-piece honors ensemble selected annually from Colleges and Universities throughout New England. This year over 10 Gordon College musicians have been selected to participate. Each year a prominent guest conductor is selected to conduct the Intercollegiate Band. This year's conductor is Mark Davis Scatterday, Conductor of the Eastman Wind Ensemble from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. The Intercollegiate Band will perform selections from Gustav Holst's The Planets and Dmitri Shostakovich's Galop from Moscow, Cheremushky.Also appearing on the concert program will be the United States Air Force Band of Liberty, with Major Larry H. Lang, Commander and Conductor. This fine military ensemble, stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts, will perform works by Samuel Hazo, Johann Sebastian Bach, Eric Whitacre, Henry Fillmore and others. Appearing as a guest conductor with the Band of Liberty will be Frank Battisti from the New England Conservatory of Music.The concert is free and open to the public.
