WENHAM, MA—Pete Holmes’ comedy writing career began with Gordon College’s student newspaper, The Tartan. Since his graduation in 2001, he has contributed to numerous comedy publications and productions in the entertainment world, most recently landing a spot as a writer for the NBC sitcom Outsourced.

On April 17 Holmes will bring his talents home to Gordon’s campus for a stand-up performance sponsored by the Gordon College Campus Events Council (CEC). The event, which begins at 8 p.m., will take place in the A. J. Gordon Memorial Chapel and is free and open to the public. Holmes will headline the evening, preceded by Gordon’s student comedy improvisational group Sweaty-Toothed Madmen, of which Holmes is an alumnus.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Pete back to campus,” said CEC advisor Josh Wymore. “I’m excited for an event that brings students, alumni and members of the community together. Who doesn’t love to laugh?”

In addition to his work with NBC, Holmes has written cartoons for The New Yorker and has been a featured panelist on VH1 programs such as Best Week Ever and the I Love the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s series. He has also performed with Boston’s Improv Asylum, Chicago’s Improv Olympic and Playground Theaters, and NYC’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.

During his time as a student at Gordon, Holmes lent his talents not only to comedy improv and content writing for the College paper but also to Cry Innocent, a historical drama written by Gordon faculty member Mark Stevick and performed each summer in Salem.

“Being a part of this event is a great privilege for Sweaty-Toothed,” said Jonathan Ramey, leader of the 2010-2011 Sweaty-Toothed troupe. “Pete is someone everyone on the team looks up to. Meeting him and performing alongside him will be a huge encouragement to us.”
