A. J. Gordon Honors Program

APPLICATION AND SELECTION CRITERIA

After fulfilling all College admission requirements, students are awarded A. J. Gordon Scholarships on the basis of academic achievement and church and community involvement. Scholarship recipients are automatically invited into the A. J. Gordon Honors Program and asked to participate in an on-campus Honors Program Day during their senior year in high school.

INITIAL CRITERIA FOR A.J. GORDON SCHOLARSHIPS

• Freshman Applicants Only
• Must apply by January 1st; Notification by January 15th
• Students with a 3.5 cumulative GPA and combined SAT's of 2100 (ACT 31)

ONGOING CRITERIA

• Renewable based on 3.25 GPA, full-time resident student status, and
• Adherence to Gordon's Life and Conduct standards
• Demonstrate an eager desire to explore fruitful connections between faith, academics and community life.
• Active participation in all components of the program, including, during the first semester, completing an individualized Honors Contract

BENEFITS

• Invited to campus for one of two A.J. Gordon Honors Program Days, February 6 or March 20, 2009.
• $12,000 per year ($48,000 over 4 years)

WHAT MAKES THE A.J. GORDON HONORS PROGRAM SPECIAL?

A J. Gordon Honors Scholars explore their direction and calling by tailoring enriched academic and professional development options to their specific strengths and interests, making connections and proposing solutions that address contemporary issues. The program's goal is to develop each student's scholarship and creativity as a basis for leading meaningful change in the realm to which God calls them. Leadership development takes place in the context of the Christian liberal arts, study-abroad opportunities, and research and service projects developed by each student. Students do real-life work and gain real-life experience.

The A. J. Gordon Honors program offers:

• Christian liberal arts and sciences--with an emphasis on contemporary issues
• Individualized major/minor honors option
  
• Grounding in the traditions and teachings of the Christian faith
  
• First-year honors seminar--a time for orientation and reflection
  
• Assistantships--learning and leading with faculty and administrators
  
• Senior capstone seminar--a personalized research or project presentation

WHO ARE THE A.J. GORDON HONORS SCHOLARS?

A. J. Gordon Honors Scholars are students in every academic discipline who have the potential to emerge as leading scholars and people of influence for their generation. There are up to 160 resident A. J. Gordon Honors Scholars each year, with between 30-40 students joining annually.
