Who is your favorite superhero and why? When I was young, I loved watching the original Batman series. Batman had a pretty cool car, and since I grew up into kind of a techie, I guess I really liked all the technology in the bat cave.
What was your favorite toy as a kid? My rollerskates. I had big dreams of being a figure skater, so I practiced roller skating in the summer and ice skating in the winter.
Favorite book? And what’s currently on your iPod? The Other Side of The Sun by Madeleine L’Engle and A Room with a View by E.M. Forster. And these days, I’m listening to “a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll.”
What is your favorite sport to play? Figure skating, and volleyball is fun, too.
In your opinion, what is the best beach near Gordon? Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts. At low tide you can walk to the private end of the beach and follow the sand bar out to an island. The waves are really beautiful as they crisscross each other over the sand bar. My second favorite is Plum Cove beach in Gloucester, because it has the most spectacular sunsets on Cape Ann.
What is your favorite ice cream and spot to get it at in the area? Any place that serves black raspberry/chocolate chip ice cream. Captain Dusty’s in Manchester is a fun place to go because there’s a nice park across the street.
Best thing to do on campus? And favorite class here? Take long walks in the fall when the leaves are turning. The view across Coy Pond is beautiful. And the best classes I took were Modern Jewish Culture with Dr. Marv Wilson and 17th Century British Literature with Dr. Tom Howard (retired).
Why was Gordon the best fit for you? I loved the fact that my professors not only cared about me as a student, but they also cared about me as a person. When I came to Gordon, I was a relatively new Christian, and each of my classes stretched me academically and spiritually. I also developed life-long friendships with my classmates, roommates, professors and supervisors. Gordon was a great place to study, and it’s a great place to be.
Do you have any advice to give to high school students about college? Give yourself fully to the task of studying and learning. But learning isn’t just a classroom experience. Don’t forget to spend time exploring the campus and surrounding areas, spending time with friends, participating in sports and taking advantage of off-campus service and learning opportunities. College only happens once, and it’s an investment in your future, but you need to invest fully in your experience here to insure you get the most out of it. Enjoy—you will love it at Gordon!
